The battle for the Jolly Roger

Tri-County Raiders 6 (Interstate Football League) @ Madison County Pirates 31 (Midwest Football League)

The battle for the Jolly Roger started between two pirate teams, the pirates and the raiders. In a field of a 100 yards surrounded by swamps only half mile upstream of the falls of Pendleton, a battle took place amongst the brotheren of the sea. For the glory, the colors, the defeat, the agony of history born on those colors forever.

The first kick was recorded at 7:30pm the outcome, The Raiders at the end of night found themselves quickly sinking as the Pirates Cannon steadily and repeatedly firing shots. The Raiders elected to kickoff which resulted in a long drive by the Pirates who where unable to punch it in. A costly turnover deep in Raiders territory proved costly as the Pirates quickly coveted their mistake into a Field Goal by #7 Joshua Hoover.  The Raider again turned over the ball resulting in another Pirates score as Qb #17 Clay Tolliver threw a 40 yard pass to #23 Josh Ralston. Another 3 and out by the Raiders gave way to a missed Field Goal by Hoover. The Raiders found some life assisted by a costly Pirate penalty but ended up punting to #5 Devon Simmons who returned the ball 55 yards for a TD. The Raiders determined to get a score in before the half threw their way to 2 yard line only to once again give up the ball ending the Half.

The second half the Pirates produced more cannon shots (touchdowns) with a 65 yard run by #8 Rodney Woodall and an 8 yard run by #15 Deshaun Holder. The Raiders did find their chance to make some noise by scoring late in the 4th quarter, but the damage had already been done. The o-line never gave up a sack while the defense netted 3 sacks, 4 TFL, 4 Pass Breakups, and 5 turnovers including a pair of INTs by #13 Derek Harmond and #33 Jeff Adams.  By the time the smoke cleared the victors had vanished with the Jolly Roger and the score board read 31 to 6. The pirates keep the Jolly Roger until the next time the Pirates meet another Brothern of the Sea.
