Carmel Elementary School announces Carmel’s first Checkered Flag
Gala to be held on Friday, May 16th, 2008 from 7-9pm. The
fund-raiser is sponsored by Richelle and Kevin “Woody” Rider,
Woodys Library Restaurant and Jeff & Wendy Langston of Heartwood
Custom Homes. Owners of both Carmel businesses have joined
forces to benefit their neighborhood school, Carmel Elementary.
Richelle & Kevin Rider, Woodys Library Restaurant are donating
food & drink for the Gala and the Langstons of Heartwood Custom
Homes, are donating one of their custom homes to host the Gala.
It is the belief of the Carmel Elementary school community that
the child, family, school, and community must work together to
prepare each student for a successful future. Principal Kim
Barrett stands behind this belief and as a result, has developed
the CE After-School All Stars Tutoring & Homework program. The
school PTO, Carmel Clay Foundation and various yearly grants
have supported the program in the past. The goal of the
Checkered Flag Gala is to raise the awareness in the community
to the special circumstances of Carmel Elementary School and
gain assistance for families with students in the program who
are in need.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS!”
Students who attend the After-School All Stars include children
in grades 2 thru 5 who have not passed ISTEP+; are at risk to
not pass ISTEP+; are not completing homework on a regular basis;
have poor grades; and/or were recommended by their classroom
teacher. Approximately 50-60 students are served each session.
Approximately 75% of the students who attend After-School All
Stars receive free or reduced lunch based on financial status.
All proceeds from the Checkered Flag Gala will go directly to
the service of students at Carmel Elementary School. Sponsorship
packages for the Checkered Flag Gala are available to corporate
and local business sponsors. Adult ticket prices are $ 75 per
couple and $ 40 for a single ticket. Tickets are being sold at
Carmel Elementary School and at Woodys Library Restaurant.
The Gala will be held at the beautiful Heartwood custom model
home located at 13369 Winter King Court, Westfield, IN 46074.
