SHAWNEE,
Kan., May 4, 2006 -- Bayer Animal Health today announced the
release of its Food and Drug Administration-approved Drontal
Plus Taste Tabs (praziquantel/pyrantel pamoate/febantel), a
deworming treatment for dogs. With these tasty new tablets
on the market, pet owners don't have to take pain-staking
measures such as hiding pills in cheese, peanut butter,
sausage or even baby food to administer medications to their
pets. Instead, owners enjoy convenient and hassle-free
administration, while their pets chow down on beef-flavored,
bone-shaped chewable tablets. In fact, in a recent unaided
palatability test, Bayer found that nine out of ten dogs
readily ate Drontal Plus Taste Tabs.
The tablets eliminate health risks intestinal worms can pose
to pets and helps reduce the risk of transmission of
disease-causing organisms to humans. They specifically
protect against and remove tapeworms, hookworms, roundworms,
and whipworms(1).
"Bayer Animal Health is committed to finding easier ways for
veterinarians and pet owners to administer medications,"
said Joe Hostetler, DVM, Manager of Veterinary Services for
Bayer Animal Health. "We place high importance on enhancing
the products we distribute in the market, which ultimately
supports Bayer's goal to strengthen the bond between pet
owners and their pets."
A unique combination of ingredients in Drontal Plus Taste
Tabs work together to make the treatment more effective than
the average dewormer. These ingredients break down the skin,
paralyze, and/or disrupt the energy supply of the intestinal
parasite(2).
"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the
Companion Animal Parasite Council recommend strategic
deworming of pets, or regular intervals of treatment that
prevent parasitic disease and the shedding of parasite
eggs," said Hostetler. "Drontal Plus Taste Tabs are
formulated to provide a broad spectrum of protection and are
easy for pet owners to administer on a regular basis, making
strategic deworming easily achieved."
While only a single-dose treatment given at the clinic or at
home is required for comprehensive deworming of dogs, a
follow-up dose is often recommended. Tablets can be taken
without food and come in three sizes (small, medium and
large) to treat a range of dog sizes. Drontal Plus Taste
Tabs should not be used in pregnant animals, dogs weighing
less than two pounds, or puppies less than three weeks of
age.
