Way of
Madison
County
was
joined
by
representatives
from the
City of
Anderson,
Healthy
Families
of
Madison
County,
Freddy
Warner,
Jackson
Park
President,
West
Anderson
Kiwanis,
the Born
Learning
Connection
Staff,
the
Anderson
Public
Library
Book
Mobile
Unit,
and very
special
guests,
the
Nestle’
Bunny
and Big
Red Dog.
Other
organizations
taking
pace in
this
event
were
Madison
County
preschoolers,
Head
Start,
Early
Head
Start,
the gate
Way
Association.
And
staff
from
Saint
Johns
Early
Literacy
Program
to
dedicated
Born
Learning
Trail in
Jackson
Park.
Born
Learning
Trail in
Jackson
Park at
22nd
and
Nichole
Avenue
will be
a place
were
parents,
grandparent’s
and
caregiver’s
of
pre-school
age
children
can take
their
preschoolers
to help
get them
prepared
to enter
Kindergarten
in a fun
environment.
The
trails
are
marked
with
different
learning
and
skills
games
that can
aid in
the
child’s
learning
development.
Ideas of
these
learning
aids can
also be
taken
home
utilize
there.
In their
release
the
United
Way of
Madison
County
stated,
“Sixty-Six
percent
of our
children
enter
Kindergarten
behind
the
national
average
in early
reading
skills
in the
U.S.
This
year a
projected
900 plus
students
will not
have the
necessary
pre
literacy
skills
as they
enter
Kindergarten
to
become
proficient
readers
by the
third
grade.”
