State Police Assist White/Carroll
County during Flooding
January
8, 2008 / Today, Indiana State
Police are assisting White and
Carroll County Sheriff’s Departments
and local Emergency Management
Agencies (EMA) with the evacuation
of surrounding areas to help
residents escape rising flood waters
caused by more than five inches of
rain and melting snow in the area.
The Indiana State Police activated
dive teams from surrounding
districts along with additional
troopers to assist in evacuations,
security, and traffic direction
around flooded roads. Troopers also
assisted EMA by notifying residents
of the potential dangers associated
with rising flood waters, and
transported people whose homes were
affected by flood water to local
emergency shelters.
The Indiana State Police is
requesting that citizens avoid all
non-essential travel. Citizens
should also tune in to local media
for updated reports of road closures
and possible evacuations orders.
So
far approximately 100 people have
been evacuated from the areas of
Monon, Monticello, and Buffalo. Red
Cross Shelters are set up at the
Monon Civic Center, White County
Farm and Buffalo Fire Station. So
far, no injuries or deaths have been
reported in White or Carroll
Counties.
