Internet Predators
Pendleton, Indiana -- More
than 40 million children are using
the internet worldwide and are
subject to becoming a victim. Risks
for children online include exposure
to inappropriate material, sexual
solicitation, theft of personal
information, harassment and
bullying. Children are ideal victims
for predators for various reasons.
They are naturally curious, easily
led by adults, have a need for
attention and a need to defy
parents. Parents need to effectively
communicate with their children
about the dangers of the internet.
Only about 25% of youth who
encountered a sexual solicitation or
approach told a parent or adult.
Remember, education is a key part of
prevention.
