The Washington Times Launches Groundbreaking New
Digital News Service
The Washington
Times announces the launch of a new digital news site, Times247.com,
effective January 24th, 2012. This new digital service will provide
a continuously updated blend of news, opinion and analysis from The
Washington Times combined with thoughtfully selected content from
the nation’s top news sources to an audience which shares
conservative values.
The news service will be distributed digitally to millions of
opted-in readers and available over the web on a 24/7 basis. Users
can choose the site’s richly designed home page or “The Skinny”
section featuring breaking news headlines “without the filler.”
“The addition of Times247.com provides a unique new means of
delivering top news and opinion from The Washington Times combined
with curated conservative content to targeted audiences throughout
the United States,” said Thomas McDevitt, President of The
Washington Times. “A strong feature of Times247.com is the ability
to customize the curated content for our affinity partners,” he
said.
The company’s original website washingtontimes.com is
among the most visited national newspaper websites with outstanding
news, opinion, sports and exclusive content. The creation
of Times247.com will augment this robust digital channel.
Robert Morton, editor of The Washington Times National Weekly, who
headed the development of Times247.com, will serve as the senior
editor. “Nearly 30 years after the first edition of The Washington
Times came off the presses, this service will serve our expanding
national and global audiences on a real-time basis with the news and
opinion they need,” Morton said. “We are not looking for visitors
for Times247.com; we want long-term residents,” added Morton.
Dean Honeycutt, a 25-year veteran editor at The Washington Times,
serves as the Managing Editor of Times247.com, heading up a team of
talented digital journalists who hand-select content for
publication.
“We are very excited to participate in the launch of this unique
project,” said Larry Ward, President of Political Media Inc. and
technical project leader who worked with The Washington Times to
create the site. “Times247.com fuses the best elements of digital
news that the world has to offer: state-of-the-art technology and
thoughtfully curated content, along with rapid, continuous news
updates.”
“Times247.com has received very positive marks from advertisers for
its ability to reach an expanded audience and as a means of creating
curated content that expands the messaging capabilities on the site
for advertisers, associations and groups,” said Thomas Culligan,
Chief Revenue and Marketing Officer of The Washington Times.
