Richmond, Indiana - Decorating eggs around the Easter Holiday that was a fun time for the three of us children. I am sure it was a happy time for our Mother too. After all the cooking, shopping, entertaining, company, church. I knew when started lining the kitchen table with newspaper was the start of a magical day for me. Mom probably wished she could wrap me up with newspaper. I was going to end up with purple fingers for days and spots on my clothes. Adding that fizzy die to the vinegar water was always such anticipation! What designs would we come up with this year?

My sister, Ruthie, always colored several purple ones for that was her favorite color. George, my brother, couldn’t resist dipping at least one egg in all of the 6 dye colors to create his special egg. He thought it was special and it was a pretty “uke color”! And me I can’t remember, ever, coloring that perfect egg. But most of them were a pretty pastel color. My Dad, he didn’t care as long as they were editable. Now that I am older I would rather eat the eggs instead of coloring them. But when I was younger I wouldn’t dare eat those precious eggs. This is an old but simple recipe, but very tasty! Happy Easter!
